As powerful as a GPU is, why does it still need help from another motherboard's CPU, RAM, and storage to function?

GPUs are designed for highly parallel tasks like rendering or AI processing. Why can't they function independently of the CPU, RAM, and storage? How do these components coordinate to deliver smooth performance for SaaS applications or gaming?
